Dr. Abdul Majeed
Principal, Batik Art Research and Training Institute, India
Born in 1939, Dr Abdul Majeed has carved out a name for himself on the batik and art scene. Since 1971, he has taught underprivileged women batik art as a way towards making them self-supporting. He developed a programme to teach the deaf and dumb through painting from 1972 to 1979. He also works on hard-surface materials.

Dr Majeed has had several articles published on batik, notably Master of Batik Craft in the Daily Telegraph (1977); Batik Revolution in the US (998 and 2002), besides some 15 books and eight research papers. He has received many honours, including the Senior Fellowship Award and batik painting awarda in Bombay and Udaipur. His works are displayed at public and private collections in India and abroad.

The founder of BARTI India and the Batik Art Research and Training Institute, Udaipur, he has organised exhibitions all over the world and is well-known for his original batik paintings and creative work with mixed media. He currently provides teaching and research guidance on batik art.
