Diane Gaffney is a lecturer, writer, exhibition curator, workshop organiser and collector of batik. Her articles on Javanese batik, ikat, and other handmade textiles have been published in a number of journals for The Textile Society, The Batik Guild (UK), Embroiderers, Quilters and Weavers, Spinners and Dyers. She lectures to groups in the British Isles on topics such as ikat, Turkish flat weaves, silks and indigo textiles.

A consultant on Indonesian textile tours, Diane is the treasurer and a committee member of the Batik Guild (UK). She was a member of the organising committee preparing for the Guild's 20th anniversary exhibition of traditional and contemporary batik in the UK in 2006. Among the exhibitions she has curated were Batik - Classic Cloth of Java and Silk of the Ancient Kingdom, held in London, Dublin and Harrogate. Diane was also a speaker at the World Batik Conference held in Boston in June 2005.
